The IFREE Small Grants Program
IFREE-Board Approved Small Grant Proposals Program Description
Funding through this program is potentially available for any project that is consistent with IFREE's "principles of belief", principles which inform the IFREE Mission Statement. Small grants of up to $10,000 are available to fund research projects, subject to proposal merit and overall funding availability. Funds may be requested for expenses associated with research projects, including, but not limited to, funding for participant incentives. Funds may not be used for salary support for the Principal Investigator(s). To request funding, proposals of no more than 5 (five) pages in length – excluding auxiliary material such as references and budget – should be sent directly to the Chair of the Proposal Evaluation Committee (currently Robert Kurzban at kurzban@psych.upenn.edu). Proposals should include background to motivate the research, a description of the research to be conducted, and broader implications of the results. In addition to the five page project narrative, proposals should include: references cited, facilities available for the research project, a budget, budget justification, a project timeline and a one-page summary of the qualifications of the researchers involved in the project. Proposals that do not comply with these guidelines will not be reviewed. Proposals may be submitted at any time. Below is the timeline for reviews:
Replies to investigators will be given within about 30 days of the board meeting in which the proposal was reviewed. Grants will be made to universities/university foundations or other recognized research institutions only, not to individuals. IFREE does not pay overhead or indirect cost recovery on any grants.
Any investigator receiving funds through the IFREE Small Grants Program must write a progress report of no more than two pages. This report is due within six months of the last day of the period of the grant. The report should account for use of the IFREE funds, describe the research conducted, summarize key results, and list all working papers, grant submissions, publications, etc. Papers must acknowledge funding support from the International Foundation for Research in Experimental Economics Small Grants Program.
