IFREE-Funded Visiting Faculty, Chapman University, 2008-2009
During the Fall semester, Brice Corgnet, a junior faculty member of the Business School at the University of Navarra, Spain, reported that the financial support of IFREE was decisive in making possible his visit at the Economic Science Institute at Chapman University as a Visiting Research Faculty member. “It was a unique opportunity for me, not only to cross the ocean and come to work with leading Experimental Economists, but to work with the very best people in the best environment. Where in Europe can you step into the office of a Nobel Laureate and talk about your projects?”
During his stay at ESI, Brice developed a joint project with Dr. David Porter in which they have analyzed the impact of public announcements by Central Bankers and Financial Authorities on asset prices, research which was inspired by the early research in experimental asset markets developed by Dr. Vernon Smith. Brice also worked on a totally new and ambitious project with Dr. Stephen Rassenti in which they have aimed at providing an experimental environment to tackle crucial issues faced by organizations such as motivating and promoting employees, designing the optimal supervision strategy and implementing an effective hierarchical structure.
Brice praised his experience at ESI as having been, by far, the most valuable period of his early career as an experimentalist. It changed his way of doing research by making his projects both more ambitious and more policy-oriented. He realized very soon that IFREE has a strong commitment to develop research projects with direct implications for the real world.
